In the motor-yachting world you have a wide choice.

First is the decision to buy a semi custom built yacht or the choice for a full custom built yacht.

Of course: when you have very specific and highly individual wishes: the best way is to design, develop and build a custom built one off yacht.

Major items to consider for a one off yacht are:

> The quality engineering, development and building process is complicated and lasts much longer than that of a semi custom built yacht.

> The price is significantly higher than of a semi custom built yacht (or the overall quality is lower).

> The ‘resale value’ of a full custom built yacht is very unsecure since your individual wishes are not commonplace. Therefore the trade in price varies enormously.

Only when you are considering a motor yacht of 30 - 35 meter or larger a one off can be a valuable alternative (but expensive!)

One off means:

> high development and engineering costs OR low(er) quality into every detail of the development, engineering and building process

> a very high investment for one yacht since the development and engineering costs (naval architecture, hull, deck, technics, interior etc. etc.) can NOT be spread out over the whole series of yachts which is the case for semi custom built yachts.

> higher risks for expensive mistakes in the building

> higher risks for delay in the building process (quite common!)

> etc.
